Game Convention 2007 in Singapore

The highly-anticipated Games Convention Asia 2007 was opened today by Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, Minister for Community Development, Youth and Sports and Second Minister for Information, Communications and the Arts at the Suntec International Convention and Exhibition Centre. The global games industry is expected to grow to more than $55.6 billion US dollars by 2008.

The keynote speaker was delivered by Shanda an online games distributor in China, where he revealed that they had 16,400 servers deployed in China!

Bitstop Inc is going to send our representatives to the first GC Asia Conference. GCAC will take place in Singapore from September 6th-7th.

The GC Asia Conference is a forum/platform in the area of computers, game console and mobile entertainement where the GCAC participants will gain valuable new pespectives into future technical and economic standards pertaining to the video game industry. GCAC also facilitates international dialog amongst developers and publishers, offering excellent opportunities to share and exchange experience and knowledge. This year it focused on:

GCAC 2007 open its door on September 6th and ends on September 7th. As such, GCAC takes place at the same time as GC Asia (Games Convention Asia). GCAC is open from 9:30am to 6:30pm each day. The venue is the SUNTEC Singapore International Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Divine Word College of Laoag recently lost its Vice president for Religious affairs, Fr James K. Risse. Fr Risse's remains will be transferred to Christ the King Seminary in E Rodriguez Ave., Quezon City, Metro Manila. Internment will be on this friday Aug 10, 2007 , at 3pm.

Our condolences to the family and relatives left behind by Fr James.

ReCaptcha! Digitizes books and Prevents Spam

reCAPTCHA improves the process of digitizing books by sending words that cannot be read by computers to the Web in the form of CAPTCHAs for humans to decipher. More specifically, each word that cannot be read correctly by OCR is placed on an image and used as a CAPTCHA. This is possible because most OCR programs alert you when a word cannot be read correctly.

But if a computer can't read such a CAPTCHA, how does the system know the correct answer to the puzzle? Here's how: Each new word that cannot be read correctly by OCR is given to a user in conjunction with another word for which the answer is already known. The user is then asked to read both words. If they solve the one for which the answer is known, the system assumes their answer is correct for the new one. The system then gives the new image to a number of other people to determine, with higher confidence, whether the original answer was correct.
